What makes it the entertainment it undoubtedly is comes from a string of cleverly-invented little scenes – scripture lesson, PE, chemistry and girls’ make-up, the school choir rehearsal. There is plenty of dancing – choreographer Eleanor Strutt – that effectively bridges the gap between traditional G&S hoofing and something rather more up-to-date.

What’s On Live

[A] brave and inventive new production... Great vocals - as you might expect - and imaginative choreography help to transform this problematic opera into a more up-to-date experience.
— Sue Hull
It’s truly remarkable that a company that operates for three or four weeks of the year can achieve this with such dash and comic elan. Of all Gilbert and Sullivan’s joint triumphs, The Mikado has the broadest international reach... This production did it proud.
— Hugh Canning
